CTG Kick-Off: Day One


Atlanta kicked off with CDC Director Dr. Frieden, the former Commissioner of the New York City Health Department and huge tobacco prevention pioneer.

Isaiah, Teresa, Jacob, and Samantha from GLITC are here with us. CDC seems to have lined up every person in the Department to take a turn at speaking... and they're all using the same blue slide template! Yuck!

Common themes: High expectations. Tell your story using "reach numbers". Political context is tough. Address health equity.

Today's highlight for me was a panel from three CPPW communities (Austin, North Carolina, and our pals from LA) who all shared practical lessons learned. This is much closer to the model of TA that is helpful than the PowerPoint lectures!

    Thanks for the summary Kyle...I couldn't keep up with Twitter...so helped to have some the Twitter quotes here too...seems like a heavy focus on communication ( or you picked that out?)

    Whoa, those are wild visual twitter aggregators. They don't have any twitter walls displayed at CDC - or do they?

    Outstanding quotes, btw. Especially love that you held up CDC's asking grantees to be bold and be the practice that makes practice-based evidence.

    @Julie Lots of talk about spreading the word the value of prevention... clearly the sustainability of the funding is a primary priority.

    @Sara I think I am officially the only one tweeting at this conference... which is a bummer b/c Twitter seemed to be gaining steam among the CPPW folks and TA providers.

    @Christy Step 1: Go to visibletweets.com and type in your search term. Step 2: Got to twitterfountain.com and click "Settings" to edit the preferences. Step 3: Impress everyone and pretend it was lots of work.
