MF2SH Happenin's

So here's the situation: Make Farm to School Happen is finally hitting its stride.  We have 57 kits currently out and about, and I'm still working on getting kits to all the Americorps F2S volunteers.

Lessons Learned:

  • Allow for more time cushion in initial goal. It has taken us about twice as long to meet our first goal as we thought it would.  The video was produced at the beginning of October, and many of the kits weren't out until mid to late October.  Perhaps our goal of 1000 by October 31st was too lofty considering the time frame for video production and kit shipment.  Now that the kits are out, supporters are coming in at a more consistent rate.
  • Include a 1 pager. There were a lot of initial questions from people we sent kits to about the specifics of farm to school.  We realized after the kits were sent out, a 1 pager should have been included.  This was remedied with the second batch of kits.  Additionally, we thought a link to the 1 pager should be included on the website so folks who have a flyer directing them to the site have a little more information on what they're signing up to support.  I also heard some feedback from kit holders that they wished the flyers had a little more information.
  • Budget a smaller incentive for all volunteers.  The incentive (iPad) is awesome, but I think smaller communities might be discouraged if they think, "There's no way I'll get as many people signed up as someone in Madison or Milwaukee."  We are working on a second layer of incentives: a small Wisconsin Made food basket for any person or group that gets 100 supporters signed up.  This way everyone who makes a substancial effort in helping us gain supporters is rewarded.
