Farm 2 School/Local Food Summit

Christy and I attended the Farm to School/Local Food Summit in Delavan last week, and it was as enjoyable as a slice of cheesecake.

Steve and Bridget presented on Make Farm to School Happen as the conference's call to action. On Wednesday, we set up our booth, but it was in the basement and not easily accessible (though we still managed to run out of buttons and pens). On Friday, conference staff had gotten approval to move the booth out near the entrance. With that change, nearly 100 people signed up at the conference for farm to school updates.

We attended several sessions, one of which detailed how farm to school activities are affecting student health and wellness, academic achievement, economic impacts, and environmental impacts. Research is ongoing, but promising. Another session encouraged schools and chefs to collaborate on efficient ways to produce large quantities of food. 

We had the opportunity to network with individuals from around the state who are interested in making farm to school happen!
