For some background, we were filming a promotional video to launch our "Make Farm to School Happen" campaign (for ARRA 1/2). It's a policy-focused education campaign with a goal to collect and mobilize 5,000 supporters by the end of the project. Supporters will be emailed 2 concrete ways to take action per month, gradually building up their capacity to engage in policy tactics.
To achieve these goals, we'll be identifying and training 50 "Street Teams" - existing public health advocates who will be collecting supporters for us at local events like farmers markets across the state. We're mailing each Street Team a kit with supplies to hit the street for our cause... along with this high-energy video to get them hyped and trained on how to use it. WCH roles on the project are: Sarah Apple is serving as Editor of the bi-monthly alerts, Christy is our Volunteer Coordinator for the project, and I am sharing writing duties with various external partners.
Our process for preparing the video involved one full morning as a team. First we reviewed a few video inspirations and then identified which pieces of information we needed to convey. Next we split into two groups (one for scripting, one for visual storyboarding). Finally we moved into camera blocking and rehearsing key scenes. This made the actual shoot today much quicker!
