I'm sure many of you are aware that we're affected directly by the current work of the "Congressional Super Committee" that is meeting to forge a deficit deal. The six democrats and six republicans have until Nov 23rd to find a $1.2 trillion solution that avoids automatic budget cuts triggered on Dec 23rd.
At the end of last week, our very own Prevention & Public Health Trust Fund (which funds Community Transformation Grants) was proposed to be cut in half from $15 billion to $8 billion. (see memo above)
The Democratic members are Senators Patty Murray (D-WA), John Kerry (D-MA), and Max Baucus (D-MT) as well as Representatives Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and James Clyburn (D-SC). Here is the letter they were originally sent from 700 public health advocates.
