DAM Update

Travis, Nancy and I decided what digital asset management (DAM) product to recommend for the Clearinghouse: Extensis Portfolio Server.
Here's what it would cost:
  • One-time fee for three client licenses:   $5,028*
  • Annual service agreement:  $1,100**
  • One-time on site training for two to three days: $5,600–8,400
  • Provide our own storage space: $1,200+
The total first year cost would be about $13,00–16,000.

*Can have multiple log-ins, but only three people can be logged in at a time. Additional client licenses are $216 each.
**24/7 technical assistance, plus upgrades and new features. Cost is 22% of initial fee.

Plan B

For now, that's beyond our reach. Plan B is to use the iMac that is now in Travis' cube as a central place to download and collect photo and video files. We'll use Adobe Bridge to put them in a folder structure, tag them, and rate them. We hope to hire an undergraduate to help us with this.

I think most of our files are already available there—thanks to everyone who took time to help us with that.

  1. I think it is a great idea to start out with bridge and perhaps "graduate" at a later date to a service if we find we still really need one.
