This letter from a volunteer coalition member of HEAL in Marathon County appeared in the Wausau Daily Herald:
I am glad the secretary of Health Services now recognizes the need for prevention in Wisconsin communities by signing a letter of support for the CDC Community Transformation Grants proposal. This grant opportunity would help residents of Wisconsin lead better, healthier lives. Wisconsin cannot afford to leave federal dollars on the table. Wisconsin taxpayers pay federal taxes and deserve these services. Now this money will go to another state to improve its communities.
My family enjoys going to Memorial Pool several times each week, and we bike to the farmer's market on Saturdays. Thursday nights are spent with colleagues from work for our weekly bike ride on trails like the River Edge Parkway. I am so thankful that our community is able to offer these opportunities for my family, and it makes me think of all the other things we could do with these funding opportunities.
These assets play an important part in shaping the lives of our children and making our communities a better place to live.
