Getting the Rankings Message Out to Your Community

On March 10, 2011, the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute hosted a communications and messaging webinar that featured Chuck Alexander, Senior Vice President and Director of the Public Health Team at Burness Communications. During this webinar, Chuck reviewed the key messages for the 2011 County Health Rankings' release, talked about ways to use the media to tell your story, and highlighted examples of successful media coverage from the 2010 Rankings' release.

The key messages of the 2011 Rankings' release include:

Where we live, work and play matters to our health;
Much of what influences our health happens outside of the doctor's office; and
Change begins by bringing together community leaders to identify what steps need to be taken to build a healthier community.
Strategies for getting the 2011 Rankings' message out include:

Know and tell your community's story;
Write and issue a press release to your local media; and
Share the County Health Rankings with other key partners such as elected officials, hospitals, chambers of commerce, education leaders, and the United Way.
More information on the key messages and strategies for the 2011 County Health Rankings is discussed on the webinar. Click here to view this webinar.
